Our Take: There is no doubt that Elepaq has carved out a name for itself in the generator business in Nigeria. This particular generator boasts of 4.5KVA starting capacity though I dare say you should be more concerned about the running capacity of 4.2kva, don’t be deceived by the 7800 in its name. This generator like others in its class is a single-phase generator, meaning it will generate just one positive output line; don’t worry except you have a factory in your flat, this is mostly adequate. Using the 220v used in Nigeria, this generator is capable of supplying about 19A. This is a junior brother to the bigger 12kva version.

In terms of load, 18A roughly translates to one 40-inch TV, 6 power saving bulbs, one 1-HP AC(preferable an inverter AC, else make sure you put this on first and make sure the compressor starts working before putting on the refrigerator), one 200L refrigerator and other smaller appliances like your chargers and laptop; this will get your generator to about 65% capacity. Note the running your generator at the full capacity continuously will reduce the life span, increase the frequency of required service, and increase fuel consumption. A 15L tank should run for at least 10 hours at 50% load.

The fact that it comes with tires makes it easy for it to be rolled back in after use just in case you are not comfortable leaving it outside. I always advise to go for a Key Start generator if budget is not a problem, this eliminates the practice of waiting for someone to use the recoil start while the house is in darkness.
